Text-based football manager game Mafioso Football Manager has been released!

Hello! I decided to take some time to revive an old project of mine, a football manager game I created back in 2012. I gave the old girl some polishing and released her into the wild today.  The game functions as a normal football manager game, but as the name suggests, you'll also be able to use the services of the mafia to gamble, bribe or dope your way up. Check it out and let me know what you think!

  • Take full control of a lowly third division football club. Can you develop your players, get promoted to the top of the league pyramid, and win the esteemed premiership title?
  • Each playthrough is different. Club names, players, daily scenarios and careers will always be unique and random.
    • 650 000 possible club names created randomly in the style of traditional British football clubs—the combinations include names like Paulsfleet Casuals, Lutterby Dons, Shrivencester Sports, Thrapsbury Island, Leverwell Motors, Morwade Miners, Waketon City, Hornfleet Athletic or Nantmill Vagabonds.
      • The game includes an optional name pack to generate unique club names in the style of old Finnish sports clubs—think Ututehtaan Vauhti, Järvenvuoren Junkkarit, Keihäsmetsän Kisailijat, Jumalsaaren Potku or Munakarjulan Voimistelijat. Again, thereover 650 000 possible name combinations!
    • 85 200 possible player names, with dozens of nationalities. 200 000 possible stadium names.
  • You are the boss—the manager, the sporting director and the CEO. Handle weekly scenarios and the club's reputation, finances, stadium services and sponsorship deals. Follow your players' fitness, choose your captain, matchday squads and strategies, handle the transfer windows, and make sure that your players are always developing.
  • Try taking a trip to Little Sicily. Dealing with the mafia is risky, but the prospect of placing illegal bets on your upcoming match, bribing the F.A. to get suspensions wiped off or getting your hands on some stamina-enhancing doping might just get too tempting at times. And don't sweat it—if you're not interested in this sort of stuff, you can just ignore the mafia and play the game as a regular football manager game.
  • Handle different scenarios! Each game week starts with up to five random scenarios, that will affect your club and often require you to make choices. A local schoolboy might collect money for your club by selling lemonade. Your stadium might host a talent show for local boy bands, resulting in a major loss of reputation. A local fast food joint might be interested in a sponsorship deal: will you rename your stadium to "Haggis Hall" in exchange for money and embarrassment?
  • Get excited about your matches and go crazy with that late winning goal! In the match center, you can enjoy all your club's matches live, compressed into 50 seconds of exciting live commentary. If you're not interested, you can just skip the action using the space bar. You can also grant your team temporary stat boosts by using 'attack boosts' or 'control boosts' live during matches, if you purchased them from the coaching center.
  • Create dynasties, watch your youth players turn into club legends and eventually retire. With each save you'll be able to play up to 20 consecutive seasons.
  • Customize! The game includes a Team Creator, which allows you to start the game with a self-made custom team. Edit all save files or resource files easily in notepad for even more flexibility.

This really is a delightful little football manager sim. Nice and light, but with enough going on in the stats to challenge you. Trying to maintain a healthy team while balancing the books is tricky, and lord knows I've been tempted to bet on the mighty Lutchester Wanderers a few times!

Alas, reason has prevailed and we are still - somehow - at the top of the league.

To see games like this still being made with qb is awesome. It's obvious that a lot of love went into this little gem, and I'm really grateful to the dev for putting it together and releasing it.

Awesome comment, thank you! I'm already a fan of Lutchester, hope you clinch the title!

It's funny, I had the game pretty much finished for almost 10 years but didn't bother to release it. I had a lot of fun playing it myself, though. Some great 20-season dynasties! :D One day, if I have the motivation, I'll give the game another update and fix some of its biggest flaws (especially the awful controls, and the balancing could use some work too).
