CODENAME DESPERADO is an action-packed retro side-scrolling shooter with beautiful textmode (ANSI) graphics. Originally developed and almost finished in 2011, the game was abandoned for ten years, until a revival in August 2021. The game was released as a freeware game in September 2021.
CODENAME DESPERADO IS:
- Inspired by titles such as Contra, Duke Nukem 2D, Metal Gear, Ikari Warriors.
- Playable on Windows (XP to 10). If you're interested in a Linux or macOS version, let us know!
- Programmed in QB64.
- Beautiful and detailed textmode (ANSI) graphics with parallax scrolling, weather effects etc.
- 2 main campaigns (11 + 3 levels), plus a zombocalypse extra level.
- 8 different weapons: pistol, AK-47, grenade, C-4, shotgun, flamethrower, plasma gun, rocket launcher
- Different types of enemies.
- Platforming.
- 3 difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Insane.
- Incredibly poor humor.
- Great speedrunning potential.
- A soundtrack by RyanAvx (8-Bit Mega Action Platformer Soundtrack).
